Purpose of Establishment : To contribute to raise a cultivated, well-educated, generation for the future of Turkey, to give material and moral support to children who want to be educated during all their school life, but who are deprived of education due to the economic insufficiency of their family and who are obliged to work to earn their living, to support them to be harmonic and creative people in our social life.

TOÇEV

Maintains its existence by people committed morally and materially to the cause of education in Turkey. Charitable families who give stable monthly donations and the income from the social events that are organized, The income from TOÇEV Children and Youth Theatre, income from the theatre plays that are sold-out every month, the income from the various social activities (charity bazaar, fashion show, exhibition, etc…) of the volunteers,TOCEV exists through an army of volunteers and professional team of 21 people.

Operational Structure:

The necessities supplied by the workers of TOÇEV (school uniform, stationary, health necessities, clothes for winter and summer, psychological support...etc.) are reached to children and there never is money aid.

All of the main needs of the students who are suitable to the criteria of the foundation, from the 1st class of the primary school to the university graduation are met.

The applications made to the foundation are analyzed and the suitable criteria are examined.
Examining the economical impossibility (house visits)
Examining of school success and the appropriate behavior
The demand for education
Gathering information from the school principal and the teachers about the student.
Gathering information from the environment about the family.
Following of the support without taking away the child from his/her family.

Works of TOÇEV according to years;

1994

Establishment Registering 5 children in school and the start of meeting their necessities. 1.200 students are being supported in all around Turkey by 2009.

1995

The free “Big Concert” organized with the attendance of the member children of the other NGO’s in Istanbul.

1996

Attending to Habitat. The cooperative foundations (Christian Children Foundation, Bectel Inc., UNICEF, Community Development Foundation Inc.)

1997

Presenting an alternative report to the United Nations by taking an active charge in the Children’s Rights Coalition.

1998

First graduates. 20 students out of 24 had won university. Educational Support Project –Tunceli
It’s been the first nongovernmental organization to bring theatre to Tunceli.
'TOÇEV Child and Youth Theatre is established with the professional actors and the directory of Şemsi İnkaya.
T.Özakman's play of 'The Return of Karagoz' was acted for 2 years
First support to the earthquake area;
The work started with 20 children first,
A child’s eye operation was made,
Psycho-dram work and theatre activities were organized for the children who are earthquake victims.
Events were organized in İzmit Mehmetcik Tent City with the attendance of 1500 earthquake victim children and 50 children of our foundation.

2000

6 students had very important operations. Poem, composition, painting and sports contests were held among the children of 10 foundations.

2001

Support was given to the schools and the students that need help in the municipility of Sisli. TOÇEV became the “General Coordinator” of the Children’s Rights Coalition. Worked with UNICEF about the Children’s Rights. The 'GAP 2001 Educational Support Project' was started in cooperation with Diyarbakır Governorship and GUNGIAD. The project started with the purpose of giving support to the students who live in Southeast Anatolia Region for their education and learning, social and cultural development. TOÇEV had given main application and education support, GUNGIAD material and organizational support and the Diyarbakır Governorship had given bureaucratic support. The same project was also signed with the Adıyaman Governorship and the Adıyaman Chamber of Commerce in the city of Adıyaman. Under the name of 'GAP Educational Support Project' first 5 families on duty in 5 cities worked in coordination with the Education Services Consultancy. 44 schools of students with economical insufficiency were visited and various gifts directed towards the needs of the students were given. 22 thousand children were reached within this project.

Again, in every city, the costumes of the play 'The Return of Karagoz' by TOÇEV Children and Youth Theatre were made by ÇATOM ( Multi-Purpose Social Center) in Batman. All the materials were distributed to the cities of Batman, Mardin, Adıyaman and Şanlıurfa by TOCEV team. The packages of the children joined our foundation by Van, Bitlis, Mus, İlkyar Foundation were sent by Yurtiçi Cargo.

2002

TOÇEV, ran the “Communication Coordinatorship” of Children’s Rights Coalition.

Turkey was represented for the first time by a nongovernmental organization in the World Children Forum held in New York in the year 2002 with the help of its success by taking part of the global signature campaign ran by UNICEF.

We were chosen the 2nd country for the signature campaign 'Say ‘Yes’ for Children’. This secondary position gave us the chance to participate to the World Children Forum (June 2002- New York) which is organized every 10 years. We organized trainings within coalition; first 'Creating Support and Advocacy' training then with 'Fund Raising' training we strengthened our association and our power. By joining to the communication network supported by UNICEF, we carried Turkey to an international platform in the field of children’s rights. In such a short time, in the result of our realized works, we were chosen the 2nd director of the RNC (Regional network for Children) communication network made of Balkan and Baltic countries.

A carnival was organized within the PROJECT “SMILING CHILD”. With the income of the project which started with various events in Maslak Venue a contribution was made to 150 children studying in Siirt.

2003

TOÇEV Children and Youth Theatre’s play 'Half of the Apple' was watched by approximately 2500 children in the Southeast Anatolia Region. The same play has reached 1500 children in a tour consisting of the cities Adana, Antakya and Iskenderun.

 

2005 LONG LIVE OUR SCHOOL” CAMPAIGN(2005 – still going on)

An ‘educational support’ campaign. TOCEV runs this long-running campaign with SHOW TV and Ministry of National Education. With our ‘LONG LIVE OUR SCHOOL’ campaign which was brought to life in January 2005 we aim to repair 81 village primary schools in 81 cities, and to create new conditions for the students to forget how old-fashioned their schools are. By the year 2009, we repaired 200 village primary schools and made them shining bright in educational services.

 

2006 “ONE THING CHANGES, EVERYTHING CHANGES” CAMPAIGN (2006 – still going on)

The purpose of the campaign started with the cooperation of NTV Radio was to send a school bag full of one year’s stationary necessities to the children with economical insufficiency in the beginning of this education year. In the amid of the year boot and jacket, at the end of the year bags full of toys and story books will be sent as school report gifts. By the year 2009 65 thousand children’s needs were met within this campaign.

To contribute to raise a generation physically, spiritually and mentally well developed. To help students continue to their high school education after completing the education at boarding village schools (Yibo).

With this project, we aim to raise the awareness of the community especially in the countryside to in a field where concepts of ‘child – sports - art’ development are intertwined and to show to be more sensitive in social responsibilities.

“FIRST STEP TO FIRST AID” PROJECT (2007 – still going on)

First Aid training was given with theatre education to the students of Boarding Primary Region Schools. Last year, 20.305 students were visited in 29 cities in 93 boarding schools. Our target is to visit all of the YIBO’s in Turkey. (603 YİBO)

2008 BRIGHT SMILES, BRIGHT FUTURES” PROJECT (2008 – still going on)

In 22 cities, 425,000 primary schools, 3 rd class students were given mouth and teeth health education. The purpose of the project is to reach 1 million children.

“I’M HOME” PROJECT (2008 – still going on)

There are 400.000 primary education teachers in Turkey. Especially in the countryside, the heavy climate and geographical conditions, the insufficiency of the services provided and the economical difficulties make their lives harder.

We will change these insufficient conditions offered to the teachers especially in the countryside. We will protect our teachers, their lives and our future. We will bring them the comfort that will raise their life qualities and give them modernity. Our target is to repair 50 guesthouses in 5 years. The ones that were repaired until today; 2 pieces in the city of Kars, 2 pieces in the city of Diyarbakır, and total 4 pieces of guesthouses were repaired.

“THE TRACES OF TOMORROW” PROJECT (2008 – still going on)


In the school education, the 1 st, 2 nd and the 3 rd classes are the most suitable years to give environment awareness to the students. TOCEV with Education and Theatre team visit the schools. In the all interactively designed education, the children are taught that every individual has an ecological footprint within the cause-effect relations. While the effect of the individuals to the environment is given in a theatre play, a documentary film is shown and interactive games are played. Within this education, booklets that consist of information on the subject are given to the students who were directed to the website of the campaign after the training. 4.333 students were trained until today. The cities are; Mersin, Ankara, İzmit and Çorlu. Our target is to reach 10 thousand students by the year of 2009.

2009 “HOPE IS MY FACE” PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT AND EXHIBITION

Within the context of “Long Live Our Schools” project mentioned above, a co-project named “Hope is My Face” has been designed. This project brought together six famous Turkish photographers who visited the village schools which needed renovation and photographed their children in remote regions of Turkey. These photographs reflects the hope that our children carry out for their future…

Meanwhile, a photography book named “Hope is my face” has been published and is being sold in order to support the “Long Live Our Schools” project. The exhibition will go around Turkey’s main cities.

TOÇEV Cultural Publications ; Due to the importance we give to child development and education, we decided to print books about this subject by noticing the lack of these kinds of books. TOÇEV Cultural Publications were established to be the answer to the needs of mother – father, trainer and children education, to create solutions by publishing books based on the criteria of scientific data in this field full of gaps.
